U.S. president Joe Biden has given Russian president Vladimir Putin, on the occasion of this week’s summit in Switzerland, a pair of aviator sunglasses. The brand behind the gift, Randolph Engineering, apparently did not know anything about this in advance and has since specified the model: 57mm Concorde teardrop aviators in 23 karat Gold with SkyTec Polarized American Gray lenses. Randolph’s website prices them at $239. Established in 1973, Randolph has its headquarters in Randolph, Massachusetts, and began producing aviators for actual aviators in 1978. Biden commonly wears aviators himself, but prefers a pair made by Ray-Ban, a company founded in America – in Rochester, New York – but sold in 1999 by Bausch & Lomb to Italy’s Luxottica Group.
