The German omni-channel eyewear retailer brillen.de, which is owned by SuperVista, plans to have a domestic network of 200 stores by the end of 2022 compared with over 90 currently. The banner has been expanding rapidly this year, opening more than 60 branches in the first ten months of 2020, up from 30 at the end of 2019, and a further 10 which are about to open.
Brillen.de was founded in 2012 and claims to have a network of over 1,600 partner opticians worldwide, of which 600 are in Germany. It noted that it is opening its own stores in Germany because customer demand is ”very high” and its partner opticians are overbooked. It added that the opening of new locations is being delayed by its search for “suitable” opticians. The company said that it is looking for ”at least 100 master opticians in the short and medium term” to reach its targets, noting that the local industry is facing near full employment despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
