Safilo and the Italian fashion house Max Mara have agreed to the early termination of the license agreement for sunglasses and optical frames under the Max Mara label. The license will end on Oct. 31, 2020 rather than an original expiry date of Dec. 31, 2023. In 2019, Max Mara represented less than 2 percent of Safilo’s revenues of €939.0 million.

The companies have been working together since 1997 but last year Marcolin had taken over the license of Max & Co, the sister brand of the Max Mara group, from Safilo for a five-year period starting in 2020. At last year’s Mido trade show, Marcolin unveiled the new collection for Sportmax, also part of the Max Mara group, after poaching the license from Cutler & Gross. The license for Sportmax runs until December 2023.
