Rolf Spectacles, the family-run business of wooden eyewear based in the heart of the Tyrolean Alps, recently signed an exclusive production partnership with Airbus in Munich to produce 3D-printed, titanium eyewear. Airbus will produce the 3D-printed hinges, using synthetic material, in Munich, and the glasses will be assembled by Rolf in Austria. The special hinges were developed with Flexlock, the same technology for which Rolf won the Silmo d'Or 2017 for technological innovation in frames. The first collection of 3D-printed titanium glasses will comprise 16 styles of corrective frames and six styles of sunglasses, with a choice of five colors. The nosepads and temples will be adjustable. Priced from €200 for opticians, the glasses will go on sale this autumn. Rolf Spectacles presented the titanium collection for the first time at the Silmo show in Paris.
