Russian opticians have run a unique competition for the best-looking female employee working in an optical retail store in their country. Backed by their employers, some 5,000 candidates reportedly participated in the contest for Miss Optica. After a pre-selection made over the internet in the first half of this year, a jury made up of industry executives and show business celebrities made their choices among the finalists, who had to present their own three-minute show, saying what they thought about their profession. The winner, 23-year-old Antonina Simonenko from the Siberian city of Omsk, got a Fiat 500 as a prize. The runner-ups won a trip to the next Mido fair in Milan or plasma screens. The stores employing the seven finalists won training sessions for their collaborators.
