Safilo has taken possession of its new North American distribution center in Denver, which should be fully operational in the third quarter of this year. The center and its $6 million investment in technological systems – such as a unique IT platform – are key to the Italian eyewear brand's plan to streamline and modernize its logistics and distribution in the U.S. through the consolidation of four distribution centers. Safilo undertook the plan's first phase in June 2016, shifting operations from the center in Parsippany, New Jersey, to the old center in Denver. The following July, the company shifted its North American headquarters to Secaucus, New Jersey, near New York City and its showroom there. Now the old center in Denver as well as the two centers in Clearfield, Utah, and Montreal, will be folded into the new center in Denver. The lab for Smith prescription lenses in Clearfield will also be relocating. If all goes according to plan, the new logistics hub should provide a 20 percent increase of inventory capacity and a 15 percent improvement in delivery, while also reducing Safilo's carbon footprint and commencing the use of more ecologically friendly packaging.
