After securing a licensing deal with Gucci Group for Balenciaga eyewear, Safilo has added another license in the high-end segment of the market through an agreement with Jimmy Choo, a prestigeous English brand of elegant women's footwear that has been growing strongly on a global basis.
It is the first eyewear license signed by the brand and it will run until 2015, but company officials would not disclose the minimum guaranteed royalties or sales. Jimmy Choo sunglasses are planned for an introduction to the market in January of next year, followed by a line of prescription frames.
An investment company, TowerBrook Capital Partners, acquired Jimmy Choo last February for £185 million (€276m-$370m). Almost simultaneously with the deal with Safilo, the brand has also signed a license for fragrances with Selective Beauty. The first Jimmy Choo perfume is expected to come out only in the Spring of 2009 (more in Shoe Intelligence).
