Salmoiraghi & Viganò, the major Italian optical retail chain, has expanded its store network to 480 doors as of the month of July from the 436 units it had at the end of the first half of its fiscal year in March. The group is still aiming for a total network 800 stores by 2011. Meanwhile, the company's store expansion, partly triggered by its recent tie-up with Angiolucci Lunettes in Sicily, will help to boost sales revenues for the current financial year by a projected 21 percent to €182 million in absolute terms. Sales should rise by only by 2 percent on a same-store basis because of a consumption crisis in Italy that is also affecting the eyewear sector.
