Satis Vacuum will market the Plasma Impulse Chemical Vapor Deposition (PICVD) process developed by Schott HiCotech for the coating of ophthalmic lenses under the registered PICoat trademark. According to Satis Vacuum, this process, which is already used in the packaging, display and semiconductor industries successfully, will revolutionize mass production of antireflection-coated lenses. PICoat makes it possible to consecutively apply all tupes of coatings on both sides of the lens in one single vacuum cycle taking only 4 minutes, lowering costs and handling. It will be used initially for stock lenses. Applications for prescription lenses are possible as well.
