Sauflon has just inaugurated a new center for innovation next to its manufacturing plant in Budapest, which was opened in 2007. The new center bolsters the company's ambitions to become the world's third biggest contact lens maker by 2018, as revealed during the opening ceremony. The new white, minimalist building was designed for the British firm by Laszlo Foldes, a renowned Hungarian architect, and took just six months to complete. The state-of-the-art center comprises a 35-seat lecture theatre, meeting room facilities, a test room and “break out'” areas. It will host an educational program on product, technical and business themes. The current Sauflon facility in Budapest produces 300 million contact lenses annually, with a capacity to increase production to over one billion contact lenses a year, the company said.
