The organizers of the Silmo show, which will be held at its new and more modern Villepinte location near Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport from Sept. 23-26, have decided to introduce some important changes and to introduce new services and events including the first Silmo Academy, which will provide symposiums on refractive surgery, visual ergonomics and aging of the eye.

There will be a new Silmo Club for major buyers and other VIPs, an expanded press club and a speed recruitment program for job-seekers and their potential employers. As indicated before, numerous initiatives will be taken to facilitate access to the new location of the show by public or private transport. Free shuttles will link the airport and Porte Maillot with the Villepinte fairgrounds everyday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Also, the number of categories for famous Golden Silmo Awards will be reduced from 18 to eight. The jury will be made of 16 representatives from each of the categories, major international buyers and journalists, and Silmo's ageless president, Guy Charlot. The categories that have been retained are: opticians' workshop equipment; store design and layout; optical frames (best design and innovation) for men or women; sunglasses; sports eyewear; children's eyewear; and low-vision and optical instruments.

More than 80,000 square meters of space have been booked for the fair, which is expected to draw 900 to 950 exhibitors, according to preliminary estimates.
