Specsavers has acquired Tva Bla, a Swedish company that operates 19 optical franchises with sales of around 125 million SEK (€13.6 m-$16.9m) in 2003, in a move to strengthen its position in the Scandinavian country. It follows the previously reported takeover last April of the Blic optical chain, which has since grown from 34 to 35 doors. Specsavers says it hopes to ?shake up? the Swedish market with its low price eyewear, as it claims to have done in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands. The purchase of Tva Bla, which was founded in 1999 by 8 former Blic franchisees, is described as ?an excellent strategic fit? as both companies are run on a franchise/joint venture basis. Other acquisitions are being sought in Sweden.
