Spectaris, the German optical industry association, has appointed Jörg Mayer as its new chief executive. Mayer is replacing Tobias Weiler, who worked for Spectaris for the past ten years. He has left the industry association at his own request. Weiler previously ran the medical technology business area at Spectaris from 2007 to 2010. Before joining Spectaris, Mayer ran the German solar industry association for the past seven years. He was responsible for driving the internationalization of the sector and the establishment of a network between the industry, politicians and the media. The optical industry in Germany is facing similar challenges as the German solar industry, like digitalization, free trade and site conditions.
