Sporoptic Pouilloux, the French company that markets Vuarnet sunglasses, has closed its sales office in the USA and turned over the business to Soderberg, a US importer whose main activity is the management of a network of optical laboratories. Prescription sunglasses will still be made in France, however. Soderberg has agreed to drop the distribution of a minor brand of sunglasses and to invest in marketing to support the Vuarnet brand in the country. After several vicissitudes in the US market, where it once enjoyed a strong position, Puilloux had set up its own sales subsidiary there a couple of years ago, but the loss of a couple of big clients affected its profitability. Separately, Pouilloux has enlisted a new distributor in Belgium, called Metzler, which has nothing to do with the German company by the same name.
