At 34,696, the total number of visitors at the four-day trade show in Paris was almost the same as one year ago, but the number of French visitors increased and represented 45.2 percent of the total attendance, up from 44 percent last year. The score was relatively good considering transportation problems on the rail link between Paris and the fair over the weekend.
The fair hosted nearly 900 exhibitors who showcased 1,300 brands on the same surface as a year ago, including many newcomers. The next edition of Silmo will take place on Sept. 26-29, 2013.
The winners of the annual Silmo d'Or contest were announced at a gala evening on the first day of the show. Hoya was elated that it won the prize in the equipment category with its VisuReal ocular measurement system, but its arch-rival, Essilor, won first prize in the vision category with its new Varilux S series of progressive lenses.
