Starting Jan. 1, 2018, the remittance to the consumer of a new standard proforma invoice will be compulsory for French opticians before any transaction for optical glasses and contact lenses. The new format, which is much more detailed than the previous one, will show separately the detailed value of each component of the glasses, including frames and lenses, but also special options like coatings, as well as the value of the services performed by the optician. The legal obligation will also concern information about the products' identification and traceability, such as the name and address of the producer or its representative in the country. French opticians have been pressured for several years for more transparency by consumers' associations, mutual insurance companies and politicians.
