The 16th session of the China International Optical Fair in Beijing closed its doors on Sept. 26 with 84 percent of exhibitors already signed up for the next edition. A total of 589 companies from 18 countries and regions showed their products at the Beijing fair, which was attended by over 40,000 visitors from 54 countries. The latest statistics available put China's total eyewear production for 2002 at US$1.51 billion, a 20 percent increase over the previous year. Exports grew by 8.8 percent to $808 million. In the first 6 months of this year, while exports continued to increase by 22.57 percent to $383 million, imports grew by 75.74 percent to $383 million, indicating that the market is opening up.
