The Afflelou group has appointed Olivier de Mendez as general manager for Optical Discount, its low-cost banner. The 49-year-old French executive had been working for the last seven years at Starbucks France, successively as marketing director and country manager. He had previously worked for major French advertising agencies such as Publicis and Euro RSCG. De Mendez is replacing Stéphane Laloum and Gilles Meridjen, who were jointly managing Optical Discount. Laloum will be in charge of the contact lens segment for the whole group, while Meridjen will leave the group after a transition period. With about 180 shops today, the chain has more than doubled the number of its stores since the takeover by the Afflelou group in 2015.
