The Buchmann Optical Group will reach sales of nearly e100 million this year, generating a nice profit following the full integration of Weco Optik and the former Rodenstock Instrumente into Briot International. With subsidiaries in 11 countries covering all the major markets except Japan, the group led by Jacky Buchmann has a staff of about 500 persons and control between 30 and 40 percent of the world's lens edging market. That includes about 50 full-time engineers and technicians involve in R&D, half of whom come from the newly acquired properties. Weco's staff has been reduced from 150 to 135 persons. The sales forces have been kept separate from those of Briot wherever possible. Instead, R&D, general administration and after-sale service have been combined into a single organization worldwide, reducing costs and improving efficiencies dramatically.
