The chief executives of Luxottica and Safilo did not express great concern earlier this month about the likelihood of more stringent social security reimbursement guidelines for prescription frames that may be soon adopted by the French government. Adil Mehboob-Khan, Luxottica's co-chief executive in charge of markets, said that the size of the group's portfolio enables it to adjust its offer and protect volumes and market shares. Luisa Delgado, chief executive at Safilo, does not see a change having any immediate impact on the group's sales volumes in France. She believes that such regulatory issues can be addressed with a diversified portfolio, noting that the group plans to further increase its product range in the future. She added that, for top-notch frames, reimbursement rules are not an issue, as the driver for a purchase is the aspiration to purchase a certain brand or design.
