The Cross Optical Group helped lead A.T. Cross Company to good results for the second quarter ended July 3. The unit had a 23.1 percent sales increase to $20.4 million, and its operating income rose by 28.6 percent to $4.5 million. The company said the growth was led by its Costa and Native sunglass brands. A.T. Cross overall recorded an 11.9 percent rise in sales to $41.7 million. Net income skyrocketed by 327 percent to $2.7 million. The gross profit margin increased by 2.6 percent. Overall operating income was $3.9 million, more than double the $1.5 million from 2009. It was lower than the Optical Group's operating income because its other division, accessories, recorded an operating loss of $609,000.
