The German opticians' association, ZVA, opened an account for donations to opticians affected by the recent floods and severe weather conditions in eastern and southern Germany. A contribution from the ZVA of €10,000 was set to be forwarded to affected businesses without any deduction for administrative charges. During the “hundred-year flood” in 2002, the ZVA initiated a fund-raising campaign that led to a donation of €260,000 in total for affected opticians.
