The Italian eyewear industry association, Anfao, said it has won an “exemplary” lawsuit in a Rome court against a group of Chinese criminals specialized in the counterfeiting of branded eyewear. Anfao, which was a plaintiff in the trial, said the Italian tax police seized thousands of counterfeit glasses held in homes and warehouses in an investigation that led to jail sentences of up to seven years and €20,000 in damages for the defendants. Anfao estimates that Italian companies lose about €100 million in annual sales due to counterfeiting.
