The Liechtenstein-based company Optics Balzers has bought Mso Jena Mikroschichtoptik, a German company, and has renamed it Optics Balzers Jena. The acquisition helps Optics Balzers gives it a production site in the EU. The new company is headed by Stefan Jakobs, with Uwe Schallenberg in charge of research and development. They were both former owners if Mso Jena and will stay available for consulting. Alex Vogt is chief executive of Optics Balzers, which focuses on selected markets such as advanced lighting, biophotonics, fluorescence microscopy, lasers and defense, projection display, sensors and imaging, and space. It has 170 employees.
