The market has apparently rewarded Modo's ecological shift, both for its funding of environmental initiatives and its production processes for eyewear. In India the company helped the Seva Foundation provide eye exams and, if necessary, surgery or therapy for a million children. Modo contributed part of its profits from the sale of its eyewear. In another project, “Trees for the future,” Modo is planting a tree in an area that needs regreening for every pair of glasses sold. The company is incorporating more ecologically friendly materials into its production, resulting in frames of medical steel that are 95 percent recycled. In other frames, 65 percent of the acetate has been replaced by plastics of natural origin. Sales in Italy of ecological product lines have increased in recent years by 200 percent. Sales of Modo's ecological collections are on track to surpass those of traditional collections in just a few years.
