The national buying groups that belong to the European OFTI federation have decided to work on a common B2B platform to achieve synergy effects through joint communication strategies, uniform benchmarking projects and joint training of opticians. A total of 28 representatives from 8 member countries, excluding Austria, participated in OFTI's annual meeting in Portugal last Sept. 20-23. Jaime Palomino of Spain's Primera Opticos was elected to succeed Federico Hamann from InstitutOptico of Portugal as the new president of OFTI for the year 2002. Meanwhile, Optiker Gilde, the German member of OFTI, is develop a common corporate identity for all its own retail members.
