The Polinelli group, which produces eyewear and sells it outside the traditional optical retail circuit, from editorial agents to souvenir shops, has come out with two brands of eyewear for winter sports. One is a high-end line made in Italy called Blast that retails at between €69-€99 in the sporting goods stores, with a specially designed anti-theft display case. The other is a low-end line made in China called Sunteam that retails at between €14.9-€39.9 in generic retail outlets and ski equipment rental outlets, with a free-access display stand. The Polinelli group distributes its products under its name, but its manufacturing company, which also produces ski goggles, is called Lem. Polinelli supplies 1,200 sales outlets on the domestic market and also distributes to non-optical outlets outside Italy. The group generated turnover of €22 million in 2003, up 15 percent year on year, although the strong dollar weakened its profitability.
