The technical team and member services of The Vision Council hosted two seminars in Hong Kong and Xiamen in June, discussing U.S. standards and regulations for optical manufacturers. The Vision Council worked with the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association and the Xiamen Optical Association to set up the seminars, which had been requested by their member companies to keep up with changes in U.S. standards. More than 270 people from component and device suppliers in Asia attended the seminars, representing five trade organizations and 200 ophthalmic product companies. Subjects included U.S. customs, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, Proposition 65 in the state of California, the overall market in the U.S. and its outlook, and an overview of what The Vision Council offers. While on the trip, The Vision Council visited several manufacturing sites to get a feel for how they are run.
