The U.K. Federation of Manufacturing Opticians is launching an overseas membership category in order to expand its membership internationally. The decision comes after FMO received requests from foreign companies keen to know more about developments in the British market. Malcolm Polley, FMO's chief executive, said that manufacturing and frame distribution news, standards and benchmarking were all of great interest to many of its overseas colleagues and for those who would like a closer view of how the optical market operates in the U.K. According to FMO, its membership of EUROM 1, the collective European optical body, and its links with optical lobbyists in Brussels is of particular interest to many companies wishing to enter the U.K. market. FMO's members include the British operations of Transitions, Rodenstock, Essilor, Silhouette, Menrad, Luxottica, Carl Zeiss, Hoya, Gerber, Seiko, Marcolin and Nikon, among others.
