Faced with a new wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the French government decided last week to implement another national lockdown as of Nov. 1 and for at least one month, closing all retail businesses considered as non-essential. As with the first lockdown in the spring, opticians are allowed to remain open as health care professionals. GIFO, the French eyewear industry association that for suppliers of eyeglass lenses, contact lenses, optical equipment and eyewear frames, has announced that its members will continue to serve opticians, but also optometrists and ophthalmologists during the new lockdown phase. Manufacturing, shipment and customer services will be maintained, contrary to what happened in March and April when many suppliers had to stop their production, keeping only a minimal customer service in operation.
