The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), a multi-sector national agency in charge of promoting Taiwanese companies internationally, has launched, an online portal showcasing selected products by the country’s eyewear suppliers. Designed to look like the entrance of an actual trade show, the homepage guides the visitor to virtual exhibition halls organized by product categories, including eyeglasses, sunglasses, sports and safety eyewear, hiking eyewear, contact lenses, lenses, protective eyewear and 3D glasses. Each section displays a selection of made-in-Taiwan products with links to the supplier’s page on the Taiwan Trade website, where visitors can read detailed technical information about the product, and have the option to contact the supplier or ask for a quotation. For smartphone users, the new online platform also offers a virtual try-on experience on a limited selection of 60 products across all categories. According to the Taiwanese optical association, there are about 200 eyewear companies in the country, representing annual revenues of roughly $1.5 billion, 75 percent of which is exported.
