Two people were killed in a March 31 fire at Evonik's cyclododecatriene (CDT) plant at the Marl Chemical Park in Germany. CDT is a base material used in plastics manufacturing – it makes laurolactam, which is used as a monomer in polyamide 12. This material is used in Evonik's Vestamid, Vestamelt, Vestosint and Vestenamer product families. The company expected some constraints in production but planned to make substitutions wherever possible.
