Ulrich Adam, 34, was elected secretary general of the European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO) at its recent annual meeting in Copenhagen. The German has been an associate director for Hill & Knowlton, the public affairs consultancy, in Brussels, where he specialized in health care, pharmaceuticals and food. He takes his seat in October, when Richard Carswell, retires. Wolfgang Cagnolati remains as chairman of ECOO, which groups 30 national associations representing more than 75,000 optometrists. More and more universities are adopting its blueprint for optometrists' diplomas.
