Vision Ease will be moving the production of polycarbonate lenses, which represent a large portion of its business, from its plant in Ramsey, Minnesota to its Jakarta, Indonesia factory, according to its parent company, Hoya Corp., and as reported by VMail. The transition will be completed over time in about a year, to avoid customer disruption. The Jakarta plant was destroyed by a fire in 2009. Following that event, the plant was entirely reconstructed as a modern poly facility with growth potential. The Ramsey facility will be changing from a manufacturing plant to an Advanced Technology Center focusing on R&D, process development and pilot plant capability. The facility will produce premium film-based products such as photochromic and polarized lenses. Ramsey will also serve as a strategic distribution facility.
