Vision Express of the U.K. posted a second consecutive year of growth in sales and profit for 2012. Operating income increased by 6 percent to £16.4 million (€19.4m-$25.5m) across its 327 owned and joint-venture stores in the U.K. and Ireland, attributed to modest sales growth on a same-store basis and tight control of operating costs. Turnover was up 3 percent and comparable store sales grew by 1 percent. In 2012, the company added Inspecs' Heston Blumenthal signature eyewear collection to a portfolio of over 100 brands. The new collection, which is based on a partnership with Blumenthal, the British chef and iconic spectacle wearer, delivered what the company described as the most successful product launch in its history. Vision Express opened just one new store last year but has already seen two store openings in 2013.
