Viva International and Tecnol, the leading eyewear manufacturer in Brazil, have formed a joint venture to produce and distribute the US company's products. Called Viva Brasil, the new jointly owned firm is building a modern new factory that should start production next January and reach a monthly volume of about 40,000 frames in the first year. It will start off with Viva's licensed Guess? and Harley-Davidson lines, initially only for the Brazilian market. Tecnol was already the exclusive South American distributor of Viva's Guess? Eyewear line, but it had some problems in its home market because of Brazil's 25 percent import duty on these products.
