VSP Global has reached a definite agreement to buy Visionworks, a Texas-based company with more than 700 stores in nearly 40 U.S. states and Washington, DC. It is the single largest retail acquisition in VSP's 65-year history. Vision Monday has ranked Visionworks as the sixth largest retailer in the U.S. with 2018 sales of $947.4 million. The retailer is currently undergoing a restructuring that enabled it to halve its operating loss of $21 million last year. In June and July, VSP also opened its first two physical Eyeconic stores, both located in Chicago. The stores will be an extension of the group's Eyeconic e-commerce platform. The group is scouting further locations for the banner. Among its various activities, VSP is a major provider of eye-care insurance and the owner of Marchon Eyewear.
