VSP Global is also making its debut in the wearables category with the launch of Level, a smart glass equipped with activity-tracking technology. Level looks like a conventional frame but also tracks steps, distance, calories burned, and total activity time, thanks to the technology concealed inside the left temple of the frame. The technology tracks activity via a smartphone app that comes with the glasses. The unisex frames have been designed by The Shop, VSP's innovation lab, and are produced in Italy through its Marchon eyewear division. VSP Global is selling Level in the U.S. through the independent optometry practices participating in the VSP Global Premier Program. The product will launch initially in March in Sacramento, California, followed by additional roll-outs in April to Seattle, Washington, Portland, Oregon, Denver, Colorado, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Washington, D.C. Plans for a wider market expansion of the product will be announced at a later date, based on the initial consumer demand and feedback. Level also has a charitable giving component, as it syncs with VSP Global's Eyes of Hope initiatives. Users who reach their daily step goals win reward points. Once 50 points are achieved, a comprehensive eye exam and eyewear are offered for free to a person in need.
