While the Shanghai show is growing in importance, the recent Hong Kong Optical Fair grew by 23 percent to 527 exhibitors this year, its highest number ever. In an attempt to bring the Hong Kong show in line with big ones like SILMO and MIDO, organizers this year arranged a special Visionaries of Style hall for designer brands. Eleven brands, including Alain Mikli, showed up and had a largely positive reaction, though no one thought having a small separate area in the middle of all the other booths was remotely comparable to SILMO Village. Visionaries of Style, which was extremely busy, was the branchild of V Magazine, a Hong Kong based, mostly Chinese-language periodical that targets end users.
