Worldwide, sales grew by 12.5 percent to $1.89 billion at Alcon in the second quarter of 2010. At constant currencies and excluding acquisitions, this was 11.3 percent growth. Net earnings rose by 15.1 percent to $670 million. Revenues in the U.S. were up by 12.7 percent on the strength of advanced technology among intraocular lenses, an increase of glaucoma products, and a tough allergy season, increasing sales of ophthalmic solutions and nasal spray. Sales abroad grew by 10.8 percent on a currency-neutral basis and without acquisitions, or by 12.3 percent reported, with increases evenly spread out regionally. In emerging markets, sales jumped by 24.2 percent on an organic basis, or by 28.8 percent reported, with strong performances coming from Brazil, Russia, India and China. Those four countries had a sales increase of 28.9 percent organic, and 40.0 percent reported.
