As in recent years, The Vision Council will be warning the public about the dangers of ultraviolet radiation from the sun and the importance of protective eyewear on National Sunglasses Day, June 27. In 2018, the campaign generated a billion print, online, social-media and broadcast impressions in 2018 – with coverage by InStyle.com, Forbes.com, the Today show, Tampa Bay Morning Blend and The Daily Buzz – and earned a Gold Bulldog PR Award for Best Viral Campaign. The Vision Council is urging the eyecare industry to hold exclusive events, offer sales incentives to consumers and buyers, and post to company social media channels with the hashtags #SunglassesSelfie and #NationalSunglassesDay, tagging @TheVisionCouncil on Facebook and Instagram and @OpticalIndustry on Twitter. A series of interviews with fashion stylist and television personality Brad Goreski should be airing at present and on June 27. On that day, an optometrist and spokesperson for The Vision Council, Brigitte Shen Lee, will be briefing the American Congress on the dangers of UV exposure and preventive measures. The Vision Council is based in Alexandria, Virginia.
