Vision Express, the British retailer belonging to Grandvision, has signed an unusual partnership with RED, a nationwide driving schools operator. The joint campaign will offer free eye tests and discounted eyewear to 100,000 U.K. learner drivers. Currently, the only mandatory vision check consists of reading a registration plate from 20 metres away as part of the driving test. It has been estimated that crashes involving a driver with poor vision causes 2,900 casualties in the U.K. each year, and the British government recently announced that drivers would receive an eyesight test reminder when they renew their driving license.
